Stephen Hunter is a lifelong Orange County native with deep roots in our community. Born in Newburgh and raised in Blooming Grove, he is a proud graduate of Monroe-Woodbury High School. Today, as a resident of the Town of Newburgh, Stephen is honored to serve as your County Legislator, bringing a lifetime of local perspective to the challenges and opportunities facing our district.

Professional Leadership & Strategic Expertise

Stephen’s legislative work is informed by over 15 years of experience as a Human Resources Executive. Having held senior leadership roles at major organizations- including serving as Vice President of Human Resources at Paramount - he has managed strategic direction for over 900 employees. His expertise in organizational effectiveness, leadership development, and workplace equity provides him with a unique ability to navigate complex government systems and deliver results for working families.

Academic Foundation

A commitment to excellence and lifelong learning has been a cornerstone of Stephen’s career. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management from Boston College and later received a Master's degree in Organizational Psychology from Columbia University. This academic background in psychology and management strengthens his approach to collaborative problem-solving and strategic planning within the county legislature.

Active Community Engagement

Beyond the legislature, Stephen remains deeply invested in the preservation and growth of our region. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Orange County Land Trust, where he works to protect the natural beauty and resources of the county he calls home. By combining his professional problem-solving skills with his passion for public service, Stephen is dedicated to building a more transparent, equitable, and sustainable future for all residents of Orange County.
