Environmental Protection

Preserving our landscapes, safeguarding our water, and building a sustainable future for the next generation of Orange County.

A Commitment to Conservation

Preserving the natural beauty of our region is a cornerstone of my public service. As a seventh-generation Orange County resident with family roots in agriculture, I understand that protecting our open spaces and water resources is essential for our quality of life and our economic future. My work in the legislature is driven by the mission of the Orange County Land Trust: to save the wild landscapes and farmland of the Town of Newburgh and beyond before they are lost for good.

Legislative Agenda for a Sustainable Future

We are prioritizing local action to address environmental challenges and ensure a resilient community:

  • Energy-Efficient Building Standards: Advocating for modern building codes that reduce energy consumption and lower utility costs for families and small businesses.
  • Renewable Energy in Public Buildings: Working toward the adoption of solar and other clean energy technologies in county-owned facilities to reduce our carbon footprint.
  • Preserving Open Spaces & Farmland: Strengthening support for community preservation funds and agricultural easements to protect the green spaces that define our district.
  • Environmental Justice: Prioritizing clean energy and sustainability investments in communities that have historically faced disproportionate environmental burdens.
  • Community-Owned Solar: Supporting "Solarize" campaigns and community solar projects that make renewable energy affordable and accessible to every household.
  • Water Resource Protection: Strengthening the environmental review process for new construction to safeguard our local watersheds and drinking water from harmful runoff.
